College Counseling
Daniela

I am an international student from Bolivia, currently pursuing my Ph.D. in Medical Physics at The University of Chicago. As a first-generation college student from a low-income family in Bolivia, I had to overcome many obstacles to achieve my academic goals and my dream of studying in the US. One of my main struggles was being unfamiliar with the application process for colleges in the US and with what colleges were looking for. I studied at a public high school in Bolivia, where resources for students seeking to study abroad were nonexistent. Therefore, I was forced to navigate the overwhelming process of searching for and applying to US colleges by myself. I spent countless hours researching the application process, what colleges give full scholarships to international students, and the factors that have the most important roles in distinguishing who gets in and who does not. All the hard work paid off when I was accepted to Berea College with a scholarship that would cover full tuition and all my living expenses. My unconventional story is proof that if I made it, so can you! The great news is that you do not have to navigate through the daunting application process alone, I am here to help. My acceptance to Berea College was only the beginning of many successes that followed, such as participating in summer research at Los Alamos National Lab, being admitted into the Graduate Program in Medical Physics at UChicago, and being the recipient of the extremely competitive American Association of Physicists in Medicine Graduate Fellowship in 2020. One of the most valuable skills I acquired in the process, is the ability to write about myself and my story in a way that not only portrays who I am, highlights my qualities, skills, and achievements, but also helps me stand out from a pool of highly competitive applicants. In addition, I have extensive experience teaching and tutoring. I worked teaching English, physics, and mathematics as a private tutor, and I worked as a teaching assistant during my four years of undergrad and most recently during my second year as a Ph.D. student. I look forward to helping you on your journey to success.
